It’s normal to hear from less people each year on your birthday, right?

I remember in my late teens I would get 30-40 happy birthdays on social media from people i barely knew. Today? Maybe 6. It doesn’t bother me, it just makes me question whether or not my life is moving in the right direction.

Or people are just more friendly when they’re teenagers. Or since the whole world has moved online everyone is less friendly. Or you’ve just voluntarily moved away from these people who once wished you Happy Birthday. Whatever. As you grow older, your circle tightens. Your pool of acquaintances expands, but the circle of people you really care about tightens.

Or it’s just that nobody says happy birthday on public facebook walls any more, because nobody uses facebook any more.
